

Let us assume that the conductor is of length L.
Its resistance = x = 4 ohm; resistivity = y = 48 x 10-8 ohm
When the length is reduced to half, that is L/2, material of the conductor remains the same.
Then y becomes 48 x 10-8 ohm metre.
Since the area of cross section of the conductor is not charged and only length is changed. Length is directly proportional to resistance.
So the new resistance is 4/2 = 2 ohm.
